Keep in mind that professional level employees (doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers, managers, teachers, etc) need to keep their online information, posts, pictures, blogs etc respectful and professional in nature because employers have a tendency to search online profiles and social networking sites.
I hear that linkedin may be the best for a professional, do they allow some of the social networking things like blogging and pictures?

Neither..

try linkedin

Where can I find a template for a professional profile sheet, or networking sheet?

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Monster and other "usual" sites don't have anything good, or anything at all.

I'm talking about a document that is NOT a resume, but something you might refer to or even give to someone who is in a position to help you in a job search or in building professional contacts.

I know what is ON such a sheet, but I'm looking for a template. Anyone know where I can find a good one?

I found a few things I thought might help. Good Luck!

This guy has a good summary of his skills:

http://www.resumes.com/csummarytips.html

I think that above link would be cool to print up a quick "business card" with a 'career summary statement' like that on it to hand out to friends, family, other people you know when networking…with your contact info as well. I think it'd be a good reminder for them of what you have to offer, without having a full resume.

Another good idea I think (similar to the first link).

I work for a new professional networking site and wondered who uses…?

these kinds of sites to network and build their career/ideal life?

I work at http://www.ysn.com/ and we are still new enough where we haven't started any of our marketing efforts yet. I would love your feedback about the site if you have a chance to check it out. Thanks!

It looks very "my-space" ish. Which is OK if you are setting up a space for starters to talk to starters, but it seems the real value would come from mentors and employers viewing the information and hiring people or at least giving them advice. You may already have it built in, but it seems you need a way to attract established business professionals as well as the starters.

Question for the ladies about professional networking?

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Ladies (or maybe even men), when you network with others on a professional level, do men (or women) ever mistake your interest for a romantic one instead and ask you out on a date? How do you handle this situation?

Thanks.

Yes. It happens. If there is no interest in a date, just decline and bring the conversation back to a professional topic.

Networking is about making professional connections, but also personal connections, so there is a fine line to it. At some point in building a "network" you're going to have to share who you are and what your life is like, and some people may mistake that for romantic interest. Just let it go, and with that person, be less forthcoming on the personal details and keep it professional.

How does professional networking (ie linkedIn) work?

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

My professor is recommending his students that they should begin networking, and he has started an assignment where we need to collect business networks.

I don't know anybody but I know I probably need to learn how to do this as I am a senior and know for sure that I am going to be doing marketing when I leave school (preferably sports)

I currently have 1 network: The professor.

How do I go about doing gaining more?

One of the most important social media tools you can sign up for right now is LinkedIn. In today’s market, it’s a tool you cannot afford to ignore.

LinkedIn lets you post your work experience in a familiar resume format, connect with and manage your professional contacts and promote your skill sets in real time.

LinkedIn isn’t just for looking for the next job, it’s also about branding yourself with potential future employers and your professional peers within your industry. Interactive features allow your contacts to also post recommendations that can be seen be anyone who views your profile.

I’ve been on LinkedIn for a couple of years now and use the site as a new rolodex, or a way to manage my professional contacts. It’s also helped me find out more about people I do business with, but there is so much more I could be doing.

Join as many groups as you can, offcourse keeping in mind your area of developement. Search Groups of Marketing, Advertising, Networking and so on. Good Luck!

I launched a business networking site what is an effective way to get allot of users at a low cost?

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

I Just opened a business Networking Site wich is also a search engine to Find A Top professional www.FindATop.com My question is how do I get users on this site. Something big and effective to a large scale that is not costly.

Hi Jon,

The list is fairly long, but here are a few starting points.

Get connected with other folks at http://www.linkedin.com and also consider searching on "business communities" for others.

Consider getting involved with Business Forums and raise the awareness there about your website.

Consider writing articles about business communities and other topics that will show you are an expert on this topic. These can then be distributed through article submission websites.

Consider writing a news release and distribute it through the Internent news network with sites like http://www.prweb.com or http://www.prleap.com.

This merely a starting point and it will require time and manual labor to get through this. There really isn't a single quick fix solution as you are competing against other social communities.

Good luck.

Is there any way to use CSS on my LinkedIn profile to change the colors, like you can in MySpace?
