I tried to contact an old supervisor (for help with my current job search) via LinkedIn because I do not have his email. If I do not hear back, how long should I wait b4 it is okay to place a follow-up phone call? We had a great working relationship.

If you had a great working relationship with your old manager, just give him a call. I have a linkedin account as well but I rarely use it because it is not my primary source of communication. If you have his number, give him a call and politely ask him if he could provide you with some guidance in your career search. That's just part of networking.

I have former employees who call me for reference all the time!

Hi there, I've just started my own business and I've joined a few networking organistations like WiRE, Federation of Small Businesses, Women into the Network.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good ones – preferably in the Yorkshire area.

And I mean meet and great type organistations, not people who sell computer netwoking solutions.

BNI (Business Network) is a great organization for general business connections. Much better in my opinion than the Chamber of Commerce meetings. They are an international organization, and they do have a few chapters in the UK in Yorkshire, at least according to their website. I have listed the website references below. Try it and good luck!

you can start by building your professional network with linkedin.com – out of all community networks available on line this is the one exclusively designed to connect professionals.

I know only of LinkedIn which my colleagues and contacts have used. I found no use as of it as yet… =)
